Diploma Trainees – Shaping the Future:
The role of a Diploma Trainee is a remarkable opportunity for budding engineers to receive comprehensive training and hands-on experience. NTPC invites applications for Diploma Trainees in the fields of Electrical, Mechanical, C&I (Electronics/Instrumentation), and Civil. This endeavor aims to nurture young talents who are passionate about engineering and its applications.

For those with a passion for Electrical Engineering, NTPC offers 2 positions for Diploma Trainees. If Mechanical Engineering excites you, there are 11 spots available for Diploma Trainees. If your heart is in the world of Electronics and Instrumentation, 4 positions are open for C&I Diploma Trainees. For individuals who find fulfillment in Civil Engineering, NTPC provides 1 position for a Civil Diploma Trainee.

Artisan Trainees – Crafting Excellence:
NTPC also extends its invitation to individuals with a penchant for craftsmanship and technical finesse. The Artisan Trainees program is designed to nurture talents in fields like Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, and Assistant Material/Store Keeper Trainee. The Artisan Trainees program empowers individuals to hone their skills and contribute to the intricate workings of a modern power station.

The Fitter trade beckons with 7 openings for Artisan Trainees, while Electrician enthusiasts can vie for 10 positions. If the intricacies of Instrument Mechanics are your forte, 10 spots are available for aspiring trainees. Additionally, NTPC offers 5 positions for Assistant Material/Store Keeper Trainees, where proficiency in material management and storekeeping can flourish.

Training, Emoluments & Placement:


The path to excellence begins with training. Selected candidates for both Diploma Trainees and Artisan Trainees will undergo a rigorous two-year training period at any of NTPC’s project EDC/RLI centers. During this period, they will receive a consolidated stipend to support their learning journey.

For Diploma Trainees, a monthly stipend of Rs. 24,000/- awaits, while Artisan Trainees will receive a stipend of Rs. 21,500/- per month. These stipends provide a robust foundation for candidates to focus on their growth and development.

Upon successful completion of the training program, candidates will be absorbed into NTPC’s workforce. Diploma Trainees will be positioned within the W7 Grade payscale, while Artisan Trainees will find their place within the W3 Grade payscale.

Eligibility Criteria:


To be part of this exciting opportunity, candidates must fulfill certain criteria. This recruitment drive is exclusive to permanent residents of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), encompassing the districts of Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang, and Udalguri in Assam. Additionally, the upper age limit for all applicants is set at 38 years as of the last date of online application.

Educational Qualifications:


For those aspiring to become Diploma Trainees, the following qualifications are required:

  • Diploma in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks for Electrical Trainees.
  • Diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks for Mechanical Trainees.
  • Diploma in Instrumentation/Electronics Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks for C&I Trainees.
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks for Civil Trainees.

Artisan Trainees need to meet the following criteria:

  • ITI Fitter/Electrician/Instrument Mechanic: Xth Pass + Full-time regular ITI course (approved by NCVT/SCVT) in the respective trade.
  • Assistant Material/Storekeeper Trainee: NCTVT in storekeeping + English Typing 30 words per minute/150 keystrokes per minute or Xth Pass + Full-time regular ITI course (approved by NCVT/SCVT) in relevant trade + English Typing 30 words per minute/150 keystrokes per minute.

Selection Process:


The selection process for both Diploma Trainees and Artisan Trainees is a rigorous one designed to identify the most capable and dedicated individuals.

Diploma Trainees Selection Process:


For Diploma Trainees, candidates will undergo a two-stage online test:

  1. Aptitude Test: This stage covers General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. It serves as a qualifying round.
  2. Technical Test: Candidates shortlisted from the first stage will face a Technical Test in their respective disciplines.

Each stage has a duration of two hours. Negative marking for wrong answers is applicable, with 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect response. To qualify, General/EWS candidates must achieve a minimum of 40%, while SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates require a minimum of 30%. The final merit list comprises candidates who score equal to or above these qualifying marks.

Artisan Trainees Selection Process:


The selection process for Artisan Trainees involves a two-part online test:

  1. Knowledge Test: This section consists of 70 multiple-choice questions covering technical subjects from the relevant discipline.
  2. Aptitude Test: Comprising 50 multiple-choice questions, this segment encompasses English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning.

Both parts of the test must be successfully cleared. General/EWS candidates must secure a minimum of 40% in the Knowledge Test and 30% in the Aptitude Test. There is a 25% relaxation in qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

For Artisan Trainees, there is an additional step of a skill test. This test is of a qualifying nature, and the qualifying marks are set at 40% for General/EWS candidates and 30% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

Application Process:


Eligible candidates are encouraged to apply online through the NTPC online registration system available at careers.ntpc.co.in. The application window opens on August 23, 2023 (10:00 AM) and closes on September 15, 2023 (11:59 PM).

During the application process, candidates will need to upload their passport-sized photographs, signatures, pay-in slips (if applicable), and other relevant documents. It’s crucial to ensure that all details are accurate and complete.

Fee Payment: General/OBC/EWS category candidates are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 300/-. However, SC/ST/PwBD/XSM category and female candidates are exempt from this fee. The payment can be made through offline mode.

Service Agreement Bond: Selected candidates for Diploma Trainees are required to execute a service agreement bond of Rs. 100,000/- (General, EWS, and OBC) and Rs. 50,000/- (SC/ST/PWBD) to serve the company for a minimum of 3 years after completing the training.

Artisan Trainees and Assistant Material/Storekeeper Trainees selected candidates must sign a service agreement bond of Rs. 50,000/- (General, EWS, and OBC) and Rs. 25,000/- (SC/ST/PWBD) for the same duration.

Health and Medical Standards: Prior to joining, candidates will undergo a medical examination by the NTPC Medical Board. The decision of the board is final and binding, and no relaxation in health standards will be allowed. Detailed medical norms are available on the application portal.

Reservations and Relaxations: As per government guidelines, reservations and relaxations are provided for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/XSM/EWS/PwBD (disability 40% or above) candidates. These provisions extend to vacancies identified for specific categories, and candidates must provide valid certificates in the prescribed format.
